"We hoped to align 41 athletes in different disciplines, but some like hockey, basketball and beach volleyball do not travel for lack of funds., "Deputy coordinator of the Ugandan Olympic Committee, Arthur Nuwagaba, told Xinhua on Monday.

Nuwagaba said the team that travels Monday will now have 32 athletes. He explained that although the government provides the kits and allowances, the individual federations had to fund the travel of their athletes to the Games.

"I am well prepared for the Games, although I know that Egypt, Morocco and Zambia," Ugandan badminton player Brian Kasirye told Xinhua before the start.

Grace Ndagire, of the two rowing team, said she was keen to qualify for the YOG. will now line up 10 athletes in athletics events, six swimmers, two rowers, a badminton player, a 12 handball team and a weightlifter.

The All Africa Youth Games for athletes between 14-18 years old is an international multisport sport event that is held every four years to complete the Pan-African Games.
