This Good Samaritan honored her New Year's resolution of "saving a
"life" – donating one of his kidneys to a person that she had found online.
Jessica Morris (30), from California, United States, had decided that she wanted
2018 will be the year she gives her life "goal".
"I wanted to donate [a kidney] for a long time, and I was looking for a long time – but it just stayed
an idea that I wanted to do rather than really seriously go through
Jessica said.
"It's easy to say that you'll do something, it's a whole different thing to follow, so for the New Year,
I made the decision to go to the end.
As soon as the clock ticked on December 31, 2017, the surgical technician started browsing the Internet
search for a valid cause.
Soon, she found herself on the page of a Facebook group called Kidney
Donors Network, where she came across an ad on the Craigslist clbadifieds site,
posted by a man in desperate need of a rescue kidney transplant.
Jessica reaches out to the man, David Nichere (30 years old), from San
Francisco, USA, who was suffering from
end-stage renal failure for more than six years.
It was a few weeks to enter a hospice to see the rest of
his days with dialysis treatment, and Jessica says that he was a bit skeptical of his anonymous promise of trying to save
his life.
But it all changed when they met for the first time four months
later.
"I was rather simple with David [when I messaged him]"
Jessica says. "He was probably thinking that I was weird – he was skeptical and full of hope,
but you can say that he was refusing to be too excited about it.
"The gift is a difficult process, and it is extremely difficult to be
approved for the operation. Dialysis patients like David are very hard-pressed
and the habit of being let down. This was evident throughout my tests
"It was not raining for David that his life was really about to
change until he receives the call to schedule a surgical procedure.
"I saw a different side of David in the hospital. He is really a
amazing person, i am so happy that i have been able to help him. "
David, who had his first operation at just three months, had endured
26 procedures and a diagnosis of Crohn's disease
before the doctors told him that his kidneys could not work anymore.
Faced with the reality of a slow death,
the freelance writer decided to have one last roll of the dice by posting a
announces for a kidney donor on Craigslist – and, miraculously, he landed in Jessica
Jessica and David are recovering well from the procedure. She hopes
one day, they would be able to live together their mutual love of hiking.
"I'll be honest, I do not think one of us has become super-emotional.
