This Good Samaritan honored her New Year's resolution of "saving a life" – donating one of her kidneys to someone she had found online.

Jessica Morris (30), a native of California, USA, had decided that she wanted 2018 to be the year she would give her "life".

"I wanted to donate [a kidney] for a long time, and it was a while since I was looking for it – but it was just an idea I wanted to do rather than really doing it seriously," Jessica said.

"It is easy to say that you will do something, it is an entirely different thing to follow. So, at the New Year, I made the decision to go as far as I could. at the end. "

As soon as the clock reached 12 on December 31, 2017, the surgeon technician began browsing the Internet in search of a worthwhile cause.

Soon, she s & # 39; 39; is found on the page of a Facebook group called Kidney Donors Network, where she came across an ad on the Craigslist clbadifieds site, posted by a man desperately in need of a kidney transplant from Rescue.

Jessica reached out to the man, David Nichere (30 years old), of San Francisco, USA, who had been suffering from terminal kidney failure for more than six years.

He was just weeks away from entering a hospice to see the rest of his days with dialysis treatment, and Jessica says that it was a bit sce ptic of his anonymous promise to try to save his life.

But all of this changed when they met for the first time four months later.

"I was pretty simple with David [when I messaged him]," says Jessica. "He was probably thinking that I was weird – he was skeptical and hopeful, but you can say that he was refusing to be too excited about it.

" Donation is a difficult process, and it is extremely difficult to be approved. Dialysis patients like David are very beaten and used to being disappointed.

"It was not lost for David that his life was really going to change until he got the call to plan a surgery.

"I saw a different side of David in the hospital. He is really an incredible person, I am so happy that I could help him. "

David, who had his first operation at just three months, had endured 26 procedures and a diagnosis of Crohn's disease before doctors told him his kidneys could not work anymore.

Faced with the reality of 39 A slow death, the freelance writer decided to have one last roll of the dice by posting an announcement for a kidney donor on Craigslist – and, miraculously, he landed on Jessica's lap.

Jessica and David are both recovering from the proceedings. It hopes that one day they will be able to live together their mutual love of hiking.

"I'm going to be honest, I do not think that l & # 39; one of us became very emotional before the day of the operation. no one wanted to tell us no [we couldn’t go through with it].

"David became like a brother to me.At the hospital, I felt like being my twin – it was so cool to get back together and to share our experiences He will always be part of my family and I will always be part of his family

"David's kidney function has immediately improved and continues to improve. is supposed to be six weeks off .. I took 10 days.

"I have a very high threshold for pain, so I was standing and I was walking three days after the # 39; operation. I have made two hiking trips in the last month and I am only four months after the operation. Jessica says that helping to save David was an experience that changed his life.

"I have already made donations to charities and I have been promoting dogs, but I never had the impression of making enough of a difference," says -she.

"Knowing that I was literally able to save someone's life will stay with me for the rest of mine – I would do it a million times.

"We all seek a purpose in life, and you will never find any more rewarding than being someone's hero." I was so happy to be able to help him. "
