Kevin Holland used ‘Khabib scarf catch’ to subdue suspected car thief after savage chase

Kevin Holland’s fight at UFC Vegas 38 ended in disaster, but that didn’t stop him from getting back into action on Monday.

Just two days after his fight with Kyle Daukaus ended in a disappointing draw for both fighters after a heads-up clash led to a Daukaus submission victory that was called off, Dutch coach Shug Dorsey shared a video on Instagram of Holland helping apprehend a suspected car thief.

Appearing on MMA time On Monday, Holland explained how the incident began and the heated chase that ensued before he could catch his man.

“I didn’t really stop him because he picked up the car and the car was destroyed,” Holland said. “We caught up with him, we were driving around the neighborhoods. I was driving down the street, a guy comes zooming in on the parking lot, guys are running behind him, he says, “Yo, he stole my car.” So I was like, ‘I’ve been in quarantine for a week. I couldn’t finish my fight, so let’s have some fun. I turn around and start chasing the guy, he turns near the same street as my bus, so I’m driving down the street, I’m on the phone with my mom, my mom says, ‘It’s probably a repo. I’m like ‘Mom, if you see this car, you can say it. It is not a deposit. I’m like ‘I’m going to hang up and call the cops.’

“Instead of calling the cops, I call my trainer, I’m like, ‘Hey, this guy is walking through your neighborhood and he just stole a car. We should cut it and we can catch it. And he’s like ‘Okay, bet.’ “

According to Holland, he almost caught the suspected thief when the suspect swerved into a tree after nearly crashing into a house. Holland got out of his vehicle to approach the car, but had to come back when the suspect left. Soon after, Holland was joined in the chase by the man whose car was stolen, who was now in a truck.

“I get back in my car, I start chasing them, we follow them,” said Holland. “The [suspect] hits the street, boom, hits a little trailer that’s pulled with lawn equipment and stuff in the back, which adds up to the car. Once he has totaled the car, the guy comes out. The guy stops in front of the truck to somehow block it. I park behind for the guy to run away. He starts to go backwards instead of moving forward. He walked forward first, then he turns around.

“I get up, I have my cup of coffee, so I’m like this time, I’m going to be ready.” I have my cup of coffee. I run after him and he leans over to do like that, I don’t know if he says stop or what? I go like that with the coffee mug, then I flick it out. Climb on top, knee on the stomach, hit it with the little Khabib scarf grip. He said to me: “I can’t breathe”, that’s when I picked it up, I put it on the sidewalk. I didn’t want to be like the cop with the Can’t Breathe guy, so I was like hell, let’s put it here.

Dorsey’s video was posted on Monday morning via her Instagram Stories and the images (screenshots of which can be seen below) showed Holland holding the suspect as police arrived for the arrest.

Holland took to the story on Twitter shortly after it was posted, writing, “Wait. I have to go get a [donut emoji] right fast “accompanied by a police emoji.

He also posted on Instagram a photoshopped image of his head imposed on the police.

Holland doesn’t know how long the whole chase lasted, but he felt it took “a minute and a half”. When the chase was over, Holland only had to worry about waiting for the police to arrive and making sure the alleged victim of the auto theft did not enact self-defense justice.

“When I had my knee on the guy’s stomach, [the owner of the car] was really pissed off and he was really pissed off and he was running, he was about to kick the guy while I was holding him down, “said Holland. “So I kinda liked punching him in the stomach and I was like, ‘Chill, chill, chill. Don’t hit that jerk while I shoot him. I’m going to fuck you in the face if you hit him.’ , and he said to me, “Okay, cool.

“It was fluid, it wasn’t that bad. I think it was an overall cool morning. I still have to do what I had to do, it slowed me down a bit. I was trying to avoid traffic in that direction so I really didn’t avoid traffic, ended up being the same time. I just had a little fun in the process. It was nice.”
