CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) – A man suspected of attempting to kidnap three different women in Chippewa Falls pleads not guilty to mental illness or abnormality in Chippewa County court.

Cory G. Gudmanson, 35, was arrested by the Eau Claire Police Department and then taken to Chippewa County Jail in July 2021.

Gudmanson was detained on suspicion of forcible confinement, reckless endangerment, bodily harm and disorderly conduct.

Authorities said the three kidnapping attempts took place between 11 a.m. and noon on Friday. Chippewa Falls Police said the incidents occurred near Monkey Business north of town, in the 500 block of West Central Street in downtown Chippewa Falls, and in the Kwik Trip parking lot on East Grand Avenue. In each incident, the suspect followed a woman and in two of the cases attempted to force the woman out of her vehicle into his, but to no avail.

The woman was able to kick Gudmanson in the chest to knock him out, and the woman’s father took a temporary license plate from Gudmanson’s vehicle as Gudmanson fled after being confronted. In his retirement, Gudmanson almost hit the woman’s father.

The judge ordered a doctor to do an assessment within six weeks.

Gudmanson will have a court hearing on December 10.
