NEW ULM – The public is invited to the historic Maison Kiesling to attend a leather art demonstration on Saturday, August 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The program includes a leatherworking demonstration and exhibition.

Leather craftsman Dan Cochran will demonstrate his craft in period costume. Cochran started his trade in 1995; after trying many kinds of crafts, he fell in love with leather crafts. Leather goods manufactured by Cochran will be available for purchase.

This presentation complements the regular programming which includes a guided tour, a video presentation and exhibitions. Explore the past in the historic Kiesling House built in 1861; he survived the US-Dakota War of 1862. Learn about the early pioneer settlers, the customs and traditions of immigrants to the area, and events, such as the US-Dakota War of 1862, that have fashioned New Ulm. Examine the development of the community and the influence of social and political issues on the residents who lived in this area of ​​Minnesota.

The Historic Kiesling House is open Friday and Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day and by appointment. Admission is $ 3 per person, free for BCHS members and for children 4 and under.
