Kings County COVID Cases Rise 84% Over Last Month, Health Officials Urging Everyone To Wear Masks

KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) – It has been over a year since the Hanford Fox Theater put on a show and hosted guests inside.

The pandemic has forced the venue to cancel upcoming events due to health and safety protocols.

Even though restrictions have eased this year, owners have waited to reopen because they fear as soon as they do, they will have to close again.

“Ordering a product, staffing the building, et cetera, is next to impossible when you don’t know what’s going to happen overnight,” said co-owner Libby Humason.
Instability continues.

Kings County coronavirus cases have increased 84% over the past month, the county’s public health department said on Friday.

Health officials said Kings County had an average of 26 new cases of COVID-19 per week in May and June.

Last week, the county saw 112 new cases and health officials predict another 300 cases by the end of this week.

As cases continue to rise, Kings County Health Director Edward Hill has urged residents and businesses to take protective measures to avoid spreading the virus, especially as new variants continue to emerge.

“It’s extremely important that we use all of the levels of protection available to move forward,” said Hill.

The health ministry said the best way to protect yourself from the virus is to get vaccinated.

He also strongly suggested that people wear face covers, regardless of their immunization status. He said to limit close contact and avoid large gatherings.
Authorities also urged residents to stay home if they are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19, wash their hands thoroughly and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth with dirty hands. .

Statewide, cases of COVID-19 are on the rise. California health officials have reported that the majority of these cases have been in unvaccinated people.

Last week, the average case rate among unvaccinated people in California was 13 per 100,000 per day, while the average case rate for those vaccinated was 2 per 100,000 per day, officials said.

For the Humasons who have been waiting for the restrictions to constantly loosen, this is not a good sign.

“Since we don’t know what’s going on from month to month, it’s really hard to plan,” said Libby Humason.

For now, the alignment panel at Fox remains empty.

The Humasons are doing some archiving work and taking care of the theater, not knowing when they can host another event again.

“We really don’t know at this point. We’re really intoxicated with all of this and a little tired of having to pay attention to it,” said Dan Humason.

The Humasons said that even when the restrictions were lifted, they would move slowly.

They said there was a lot of equipment that they needed to make sure it was working again because most had not been affected for over a year.
