Kingston to host two public sessions for ARPA funding

KINGSTON – The City of Kingston will be holding two town halls to educate residents on the city’s economic stimulus plan to fund the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The City of Kingston will receive approximately $ 17 million in ARPA funding over two years and is currently working to create a comprehensive economic stimulus package to make the best use of these funds. The city has hired Laberge Group to facilitate the creation of the plan. Kingston’s economic recovery plan will be driven by federal guidelines, incorporate community feedback and build on existing community projects, while also supporting new initiatives that support recovery from the pandemic.

According to federal guidelines, ARPA funds can be used by local governments to:

• Costs associated with responding to the Covid-19 public health emergency or its negative economic impacts
• To support workers performing essential work during the Covid-19 public health emergency
• To cover the loss of income caused by the Covid-19 public health emergency
• To make the necessary investments in water, sewer or broadband infrastructure

The City of Kingston will host two virtual town halls to provide the community with an opportunity to discuss the proposals and provide feedback, which will serve to inform the economic stimulus package. Both meetings will take place with the same presentation to increase availability.
