Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson is set to miss the 2020-21 regular season after suffering a torn right Achilles, according to multiple reports.

Thompson injured Achilles in a pickup match, ESPN reported on Wednesday. He was reportedly told he would make a full recovery.

The team confirmed the news later on Thursday.

Warriors general manager Bob Meyers was asked about Thompson during his post-draft media availability with reporters.

“It’s one of those deals where you really don’t know until you know it,” he said. “You can have hope, you can worry. I’m probably all of these combined, and until we know more tomorrow, I’m just hoping for some good news.

Thompson, the formidable sniper whose quick release rivals that of teammate Stephen Curry, missed all of last season recovering from an ACL tear in his left knee he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

Thompson has been a staple of the Warriors since joining the league in 2012. He helped transform Golden State into the modern basketball marvel that it has become. He was part of three NBA championship races.

In 615 career regular-season games, he averaged 21.5 points and shot 41% from three points. He has five All-Star selections and two All-NBA selections in his career.
