Robert Brewer / MDN Our Redeemer Elder Eden Olson (11) keeps an eye on the ball in a home game earlier this season. In the Des Lacs-Burlington Invitational, Olson recorded 112 assists, along with 45 digs, 21 kills and eight aces.

On Friday and Saturday, Our Redeemer Christian School (25-6, 4-0) competed in the Laker Invitational at Burlington High School.

Finishing with a tournament record of 5-2, the Knights concluded things as runners-up to defending Class B state champion Linton.

In the pool, Our Redeemer has won victories in their first three games, beating Rugby first 25-9, 25-15, then Park River 25-14, 25-21. The Knights won their third victory over Dickinson Trinity 25-8, 25-21 before losing to Linton 16-25, 25-21.

Advancing to the tournament’s golden slice, Our Redeemer beat Thompson 25-17, 25-23, then outscored Langdon 25-23, 25-21. In their second leg with Linton in the championship round, Our Redeemer’s failed by a final total of 17-25, 13-25.

Individually, senior outside hitter Cheyenne Lang led the Knights with 40 kills. Four other players, Maya Vibeto, Sydney Popinga Eden Olson and Aubrey Griedl all recorded at least 20 eliminations each. Olson also contributed with a club leading 112 assists in the two-day tournament.

Defensively, Olivia Eble led Our Redeemer’s with 48 overall digs. It was followed by Lang (46), Olson (45), Popinga (41) and Vibeto (33). Meanwhile, Griedl has recorded 11 blocks, the top of the team, and Callie Weekley has seven blocks himself.

Afterwards, Knights head coach Kara Nunziato expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s performance in a very competitive tournament.

“I think we are where we want to be as a team because we don’t want to reach a top too early”, Nunziato told the Minot Daily News. “We met Linton twice and thought we had made some improvements against them even though the final scores weren’t in our favor. We just need to keep our training competitive for the rest of the year and I’ll be confident in the direction we take.

Next on the program, our Redeemer plans to welcome South Prairie-Max on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
