After their worst performance in the history of the team, American basketball fans can not help but find themselves shocked and dismayed by the way everything ended this year. After a series of unexpected dropouts, only a few players from the original team ended up playing with the team this summer.
So what can we expect? Was this year a stroke of luck, or did the US team finish with its cake days running the competition?
In an interview with Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, the 5-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Kobe Bryant pleaded for the latter.
"It's not going to be an easy walk. The era of the Barcelona Dream Team of 1992 is over. "
"There is no question that the rest of the world is catching up with the United States because the rest of the world has been caught up for some time," said Bryant. "This is where the United States will win and lose. That's how it happens.
"We're going to have our challenges for the next team, be it Redeem 2 or whatever you want to call," continued Bryant. "No matter the team, it will not be easy."
This year may have seen the weakest training in US history, with only two players having been stars. In our best case, it is hard to say that things will not get easier.
But make no mistake: the world is catching up. And unless we are at our best, we are just as vulnerable as others.
