[에너지경제신문 송진우 기자] Toyota Avalon has returned to the full change model. In 2013, it was the first Korean model to be a gasoline model, but it's now not easy to find a gas-powered image of Avalon. We decided to sell only the hybrid model, equipped with two engines, an engine and an electric motor, sold on the domestic market by the Toyota brand.

On the 7th, I went to the Yeongwol area in Gangwon Province on the Avalon Hybrid. The test trail starts from Jamsil Lotte World Tower in the Yeongwol eco-village and extends for approximately 345 km. While browsing a short distance during the day, I noticed the features and charm of the new Avalon.

◇ Wide, low body … Implementation "enough space"

Avalon, who entered the 5th generation, was definitely stronger than its predecessor. The appearance was elegant and bold by applying the "Keen Look", a design of the Toyota family. The sporty sensitivity in an intense straight line, wide and low position in an intense sub-grill was obvious.

The fact that Avalon is a full-size sedan is proven by the differentiated lateral design of the long body. The silhouette of the cabin rises to the rear and the slender design of the C pillars, more and more slender, puts the premium on the high-end sedan. In particular, the back is finished in a broad and stable shape, and the image is sharp and balanced.

The interior has become more spacious. The new Avalon has a total length and height of 15 mm higher than previous models. The size of this vehicle is 4946mm and 1849mm of total length and 1435mm of height. It is larger and longer than Hyundai Motors Grandeur (4930x1865x1470), considered a competitive model, but its height is low.

The wheelbase (the distance between the front axle and the rear axle), which determines the size of the interior space, is also increased by 50 mm. Digitally, it offers more space than Size (2845mm). In fact, there was plenty of room on the back seat without pulling the seats from the front row towards the front. For a man of 175 cm, there were two fists in the thigh.

Toyota has designed the battery for this vehicle so that it is located under the rear seat. This ensured the same trunk space (456 L) as the fourth-generation gasoline model, while focusing the center of gravity down to ensure vehicle stability.

◇ Hybrid, fuel economy allowed (16.6 km /)

The charm of the Avalon Hybrid lies in its good fuel economy. First, the combined fuel consumption is 16.6 km / ℓ compared to the original plan. The model Lexus ES300h (17.0 km /), which has built a unique position in the market of imported hybrid vehicles, is less than at night, but given its price, it is the best in its category .

I got in the car and started driving seriously. The Avalon Hybrid is equipped with a dynamic force engine, a power control unit 20% more efficient than the conventional model and a transmission (e-CVT) providing 218 horses and a maximum torque of 22.5 kg · m. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine produces 178 horsepower (5,700 rpm) and the electric motor, 88 horsepower.

The acceleration was cool. I felt no congestion anywhere in town, on the highway. Compared to the big body, the power appears relatively insufficient, but it was only inclined. The ride was smooth and fuel consumption was better. So I could press the accelerator pedal.

Traveling about 75 km from Jamsil Lotte World to the Yangpyeong rest area, fuel consumption was around 18.7 km. It allowed for constant speed riding while also improving fuel economy using Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). The other reporters recorded more than 20 km /. When the vehicle was driving approximately with a difficult ride, it was only slightly less or slightly less than the fuel consumption allowed.

The calm was a premium saloon. I never felt it was embarrbading because of the influx of noise from outside and the sound of the wind from the beginning to the high speed race. Toyota has extensively applied dashboard panels, sound-absorbing materials and ceiling silencers. However, Jangjin-dong remained a sadness. In the high speed section, the texture of the vibration coming from the road was transmitted from time to time.

The Avalon Hybrid will likely be a good choice for consumers who do not want to miss the pleasure of driving while seeking to reduce their fuel consumption. In addition to having a lot of space, the luxury sedan has the dignity of being a family car. The price of the Avalon Hybrid is 46.6 million won.
