KT has issued an additional compensation plan to reduce total costs for customers using copper-based and copper-based internet-based Internet services for AHN branch fire for 29 months. Customers using ordinary copper-based cable will be required to pay a usage fee of six months in total.
KT has announced additional compensation plans as few customers have suffered from copper cables. According to KT, the recovery rate after the fire is 98% for wireless networks and 99% for cable networks (based on optical cables). Copper cables, heavy, thick and difficult to repair, still have a recovery rate of 10%. The number of telephone lines damaged by the fire is about 168,000.
The Fixed Line Subscriber Compensation Plan, announced on January 25, has been extended to two to five month rate reductions from the previous rate reduction. The fire started on the 24th at 11 am at Seodaemun-gu Seoda Subway Station in Seoul. The fire department changed completely around 9:25 pm, 10 hours after receiving a fire report.
