Anthony Davis made a 180 at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, NC, while the Pelicans great man from New Orleans set the record straight on his list of teams to which he would like to be exchanged.
When Davis applied for his Pelicans contract from New Orleans, it was announced that he would not consider signing a long-term agreement with the Boston Celtics because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of Kyrie Irving with the team this season. But Davis reinstated the facts on Saturday, telling reporters that the Celtics were on his list, like almost every other NBA team that apparently does not have the Pelicans name, apparently.
So, does Davis's overthrow on Boston mean he knows anything about Irving's future with the Cs? Or was there maybe a little legal manipulation of the star game between the two friends while they were preparing for the LeBron team?
Irving, who is normally good for an in-depth quote, does not have much to say about Davis's change of heart in favor of Boston.
"Oh, he did, is not it?" Said Irving, via Joe Vardon of The Athletic. "I do not think I have any comment on this for the moment."
In the end, Davis does not really have a say in his position. The 25-year-old is under contract for another season and the Pelicans will send him to the team who will give them the best return to rebuild their franchise the day after its release.
The most likely outcome is that Danny Ainge gets his man and signs an agreement for Davis because the Celtics have the most assets to offer in New Orleans under a potential deal. Of course, it all depends on Irving, who recently made his commitment to sign back to Boston. If Star Guard chooses to leave the Green and sign elsewhere, Ainge will not be able to press a contract that will send Jayson Tatum to the Pelicans, especially if Davis will not sign an extension.
Davis is determined to play the rest of the season for the Pelicans as they try to make one last try for the playoffs and when the season finishes in New Orleans, all eyes will be on the commercial saga of Davis.
