LA County reported 1,113 new cases of coronavirus and four deaths on Sunday. This follows an increase in numbers from Saturday, when 1,094 cases and 8 deaths were reported. As of Friday, 1,107 cases were recorded.

Health officials say the highly contagious Delta variant is responsible for the rapid spread of the disease.
Hospitalizations are also steadily increasing. 373 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in LA County hospitals on Sunday, up from 284 on July 5.
Transmission of COVID-19 is increasing in younger, unvaccinated people. Authorities say 83% of new cases involve people under the age of 50.

“The vast majority of hospitalized or sick patients are not vaccinated,” Dr. Thomas Yadegar, medical director of intensive care at Providence Cedars Sinai Medical Center, told CBSLA. “If you look at the patients who are dying, these are patients who have not been vaccinated. By vaccinating, you protect yourself against the severe form of COVID. Yes, you still get the virus, but you won’t get that sick. You will not need to be hospitalized. You won’t need to die needlessly.
As for Datastanyan, he has been transferred to the progressive care unit where he has a message for anyone who is reluctant to get vaccinated.
“Consider getting vaccinated. It can save them from going through what I went through, ”he said.
