LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A further rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations is once again wreaking havoc in Los Angeles area restaurants.
Restaurants across the region are already struggling to recruit staff to meet the high demand for on-site dining, but they are now also disproportionately affected by the increase in new infections, especially among unvaccinated people.

This week, Bottega Louie in West Hollywood and Village Idiot LA in the Melrose area announced temporary closures due to COVID-19 on Instagram.
The Village Idiot said it would close for a few days due to a fully vaccinated staff member testing positive for the virus.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused, but unfortunately we had a groundbreaking case of Covid-19 with one of our staff members fully vaccinated. We will be closed for the next few days until all of our employees are tested, ”the restaurant said in an Instagram post. “Once we feel confident that we can safely return to your service, our doors will reopen. “

Bottega Louie in West Hollywood said they would be closing “out of caution.”
“… We have decided to close Bottega Louie West Hollywood for a few days, due to the increase in COVID-19 cases,” the restaurant said on Instagram.
Neither restaurant has indicated when they would reopen.
In previous virus outbreaks, a mask warrant was in place statewide and restaurants were either to serve diners outside or limit their capacity. But all coronavirus safety restrictions and the mask mandate were lifted statewide on June 15. Since then, the state has seen a worrying increase in new infections, hospitalizations and deaths, and more than 99% of the victims of this outbreak have been unvaccinated people.

An indoor mask warrant has been re-imposed in Los Angeles County, and public health officials in several other counties are strongly recommending people wear face masks indoors or in crowded outdoor places.
