The NBA season is upon us and the Lakers will host their preseason opener this Sunday afternoon, against the Brooklyn Nets. Before all the action begins, head coach Frank Vogel spoke to the media on Friday and provided an update on which players will be sidelined for Sunday’s game.
So Russ, Bron and Melo aren’t going to play and Trevor missed practice again today with a sore foot so he won’t play. There might be more, but for now, these are the guys we know won’t play. Anthony will play, probably just the first quarter. We’ll get together after practice tomorrow and see if any of the other guys are around.
Over the offseason, the Lakers have added a few star athletes to the mix and fans can’t wait to watch them play, but for now they’re going to have to wait a little longer. That said, once the regular season begins, fans will really see what the team can do with their new additions.
Whether big or small, hearing injuries before the start of the season are not promising. Vogel explained how Trevor Ariza suffered from a sore foot, so he did not participate in training. However, this should only become a problem if he continues like this, moving forward.
As the Lakers prepare for an action-packed season, it’s important that they keep an eye on these star players, especially throughout the preseason. Considering this is only the first game, it shouldn’t come as a shock that great players, such as LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, are out.
To see a lot more of the Lakers, their second preseason game will be in Phoenix, against the Suns on Wednesday, October 6.
