Lancaster COunty’s health department announced 374 new cases of COVID for Sunday.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – After announcing on Friday that Lancaster County’s risk dial has now moved into the red zone, the county has reached the highest single-day record for COVID-19 cases. On Sunday, the health department announced 374 new cases of coronavirus. This brings the community total to 11,120 cases.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Department of Health (LLCHD) announced that 374 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Lancaster County today, bringing the community total at 11,120. The number of deaths in the community remains at 50.
Health director Pat Lopez said it was a record high for the number of reported daily cases. “It is important to recognize that there has never been a greater risk of the virus spreading in our
community, ”Lopez said. “Our residents must all take the necessary steps to slow this virus in order to protect ourselves, our families and our health system.”
The COVID-19 risk dial was moved to red for the first time on Friday. The position of the red dial indicates a serious risk of the virus spreading. Residents are encouraged to follow these recommendations to protect themselves and others:
- Stay home unless you are traveling for work, school, food, or health care, or to check if others may need help
- Work from home if possible.
- Wear a face mask when interacting with someone outside of your home.
- Stay at least six feet from anyone outside your home.
- Avoid gatherings.
- Visit only businesses and participate in activities where public health guidelines are followed. Guidelines include mask wear, physical distance, and capacity limits.
- Follow the Centers for Disease Control’s travel guidelines at cdc.gov.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, repeated tremors accompanied by chills, repeated muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell. If you have symptoms, get tested. Testing is now open to all residents of Lancaster County by appointment only.
The testing process begins with a free online risk assessment available at BryanHealth.com, CHIHealth.com, or TestNebraska.com. In-car test sites include:
- Bryan Health: Former Graham tire store, northeast corner of 19th and “O” streets.
- Nebraska Test: Gateway Mall, 6100 “W” Street, Northwest Corner of Mall. The hours of operation for Test Nebraska are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
- CHI Health St. Elizabeth: Autumn Ridge Family Medicine, 5000 North 26th St. and Southwest Family Health, 1240 Aries Drive. Call one of the sites to make an appointment: Autumn Ridge at 402-435-5300 and South West Family at 402-420-1300.
LLCHD reminds the public that a flu shot is the most effective way to reduce the risk of getting the flu. The flu shot is readily available and the public is encouraged to contact health care providers or find a community flu shot location in November.
