‘Landslide’ Larry Elder records at 18% – Pasadena Star News

Larry Elder votes about 18% of the vote. A fairly meager performance that could only have meaning in a Californian recall. If he becomes governor with less than a fifth of the total, and he might well do, does that mean he risks making history as “Landslide Larry?” “

Some people think Elder announced his candidacy late because he was having a hard time making up his mind. The story is, Larry had to carefully consider the sacrifices he would have to make before going ahead with a gubernatorial race. Personally, I can’t imagine what those sacrifices might be since Elder made a career out of talking about himself on AM radio and reactionary pulp, but there you are. People have said so.

There is another theory, however. Based on the appalling new revelations about Larry Elder and a troubled personal life, his real reason for delaying any major political announcements was that he knew news of bad personal things would come out quickly and he needed to limit the amount of time. people were willing to investigate.

It has now been two weeks since the editorial board of this newspaper approved Elder’s candidacy. Here is the gist of what its members said:

“The recall remains a cornerstone of California governance – a way for the people to right a deviating state ship. The state clearly needs corrective measures. We call for a yes vote on the recall and believe Larry Elder should provide the next round of leadership. “

So I guess the delayed ad worked. Here are a few things that have come to light over the past two weeks that this newspaper’s editorial board may not have been aware of.

In an August 19 article in Politico, “Elder’s ex-fiancée said he brandished a gun at her,” Alexandra Datig, who ended her engagement to him in 2015, revealed one evening in particular. unromantic. Here’s how she described their close ending to Phil Spector:

Datig described him as a marijuana user who often became threatening or insistent with her, including in his repeated requests that she get a ‘Larry’s Girl’ tattoo to show her dedication… The alleged incident with a handgun fire occurred in the middle of a conversation as their relationship was unraveling, according to Datig. “He was in the bedroom and I was standing by the door,” she said. He fell silent, she said, then ‘slowly walked over to the bedside table, opened the door and took out the weapon, a .45 pistol.

On August 13, the Huffington Post ran an unflattering report, “California GOP Recall Candidate Once Called Trump Sexual Assault Allegations ‘Child’s Play’.”

The “child’s play” part being particularly unfortunate given the two-time-indicted president’s decades-long relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

“Elder refused to condemn Trump when he was confronted with allegations of sexual misconduct from more than a dozen women …” Oh, for yelling out loud, “Elder said during a appearance on “Fox & Friends”. “Harvey Weinstein has had now – I think it’s over 30 charges of sexual assault, including five charges of rape. Everything Donald Trump has done is a cinch of that.

Whataboutism interesting. There are also other disturbing examples. Larry’s so-called libertarian opposition to COVID-19 preventative measures despite exploding rates of infection and mass death, alleged tax evasion, embracing the big lie that Trump won the 2020 election, frequent use of the N word and even a juvenile fabrication that he personally introduced Snoop Dogg to marijuana.

So could Landslide Larry become governor with less than 20% of the vote? This is exactly the sort of thing that happens when a small, belligerent political lobby group is stupidly given the power to impose its will on the majority.
