LANE COUNTY, Oregon – Governor Kate Brown on Monday announced her goal to increase COVID-19 vaccinations to 12,000 injections per day, challenging the OHA to meet that standard in two weeks.

“Governor Brown set a pretty high standard,” said Jason Davis, Lane County public health spokesperson. “To achieve this, we will need a multi-faceted hybrid model where vaccinations take place at multiple levels.
The county has plans in place for mass vaccination efforts going forward, such as drive-thru events where community members can quickly and efficiently receive their first dose.
Davis also said public health could step in with mobile health units in Phase 1B, as well as closed-site vaccination events. Lane County Public Health has yet to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, but is working hand-in-hand with state leaders. They said they would be ready when the time came.
Dr James McGovern is the Vice President of Medical Affairs for PeaceHealth. He said they were more than halfway through the vaccination of their employees.
“I think the vaccines are not coming out as quickly as we would like,” McGovern said. “We would like everyone to be vaccinated tomorrow. We are certainly working hard, but they are there. They take up arms and people get vaccinated. “
McGovern hopes that by the summer a significant portion of the community will be vaccinated. So far, they have been able to treat 500 people per day.
“We’ve built an engine that runs pretty well,” McGovern said. We just need the gas – the vaccine to keep working. We are getting a sufficiently stable supply to meet our current demand. “
Davis said around 4,300 people have been vaccinated in Lane County, but that number is likely higher due to contracts some pharmacies hold.
“We’re on the phone when it comes to vaccine distribution,” Davis said. “It starts with our federal partners, goes to state and state works with counties. You can be assured that Lane County will be ready to act as soon as we have the vaccine available in high doses to the general public. “
