LAS VEGAS – (KSNV / NBC) – The people of Las Vegas woke up Monday morning with something they do not normally see – a layer of snow covering the desert city.

A rare snowfall fell on the streets of the city, covering lawns and roads and causing nightmares of traffic.

The Nevada Highway Patrol announced that Highway 15 was closed Monday morning from the south end of the valley to the California border due to several accidents.

This is the first measurable snow accumulation in the valley in a decade.

And there is more snow in the forecast!

In addition to the thumb or two that fell on Monday morning, a winter storm warning calls for another three inches later in the week.
