Second supermoon of the year set for Tuesday

A supermoon is planned to illuminate the night sky on Tuesday.

This will be the second of three consecutive supermoons this year. The first, a "Blood Wolf Super Moon," occurred on January 21st. The third will fall on March 21st.

A supermoon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is at the closest point to its orbit on Earth. Supermoons may look bigger and brighter than ordinary full moons.

This month, the moon will be closest to Earth at 7:07 pm on February 19th.

NASA has announced that it will be the full and the biggest moon of the year and that it will look particularly bulky when it gets up and goes to bed. It's an illusion that happens because there are other objects, like trees or buildings, in our field of vision. Scientists explain that our brain is led to think that the moon is closer to these objects than it actually is.

In the folk tradition, the February full moon is sometimes called the "snow moon" because heavy snowfall is common in winter.
