Dr Eric Sergienko receives COVID-19 vaccine
Sonora, California – Get an update from Interim Tuolumne County health worker Dr Eric Sergienko on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, testing issues and transmission rates, including the surge in holidays.
Dr Sergienko is the guest of Mother Lode Views this weekend. He reports that the county still has a delay in hospitalizations from cases of about a week to two weeks. He says that during the Christmas holidays, the county was putting emphasis on the health care system, noting that Adventist Health Sonora had a large number of COVID-positive patients. Dr Sergienko reveals that this created challenges for the delivery of care, saying: “In the Central Valley, the beds in the intensive care unit were full. We were struggling to find patients who needed specialized services like dialysis or cancer treatment in California. In fact, speaking to Adventists, they must have sent a patient as far as Reno.
Dr Serienko points out that this is just one of the reasons he is advocating for mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing, especially until a majority of the county population receives the vaccine. He also estimates when vaccinations will be over in the county, calculating the percentage of the population who will receive vaccines and who currently need two doses per person.
