Carson Wentzis back on the training ground with the Indianapolis Colts.

Coach Frank Reich noted on Sunday that both the QB and the keeperQuenton Nelsonwere scheduled to take part in Monday’s training session. We do not know how many each will participate.

Three weeks after undergoing foot surgery, Wentz’s return to training is a good sign of his progress. After undergoing surgery, the Colts have announced a wide rehabilitation window for the starting quarterback, ranging from five to 12 weeks.

The team estimated that this week (the third post-op) would provide a better indicator of whether Wentz’s return would be closer to five weeks than three months. The next few days are therefore important for the availability of the QB for week 1.

The key isn’t how much work Wentz does on Monday, but rather how his foot reacts afterward that will indicate how long his rehabilitation will last. Swelling or pain over the next few days would suggest he’s not quite ready to push the schedule back. Given that the Colts have put most of their apples in Wentz’s basket this season, hoping the QB will bounce back from their struggles in 2020, it will be interesting to see how much they push the appellant when he returns.
