Justin Champs won his first game in the NFL on Sunday. But he didn’t win the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears.
Coach Matt Nagy said the pecking order has not changed A week ago and Andy dalton will start Week 5 against the Raiders – if available.
“We have to see where Andy is from a health perspective,” Nagy told reporters on Monday. “When Andy is healthy he is our starter. Justin is 2. Nick (Foles) is 3.”
Dalton was inactive for Chicago’s win over the Lions and was sidelined for more than two games with a knee injury. Fields rebounded from a rocky start a week ago completing 11 of 17 passes for 209 yards with an interception while guiding a heavy attack on the ground to a 24-7 to win.
There’s a comparable worry in the other part of the Bears’ backfield that comes out on the weekend.
David Montgomery ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns, but had to come out early with a knee injury. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that Montgomery would have avoided serious injury but suffered hyperextension and could miss a few weeks. What’s more, Damien williams suffered a bruise on his thigh, by Rapoport. He should be OK and will start while Montgomery is away.
