With the 2021-2022 school year kicking off, the Shakopee Police Department would like to remind all drivers to be extra careful in and near school zones during pickup and drop-off hours. The ministry will continue to assess traffic and safety reports throughout the school year to better assess and meet the needs of specific areas.

Here’s what you can do to keep school zones safe and reduce traffic:

• Slow down and obey all traffic signs.
• Be alert and avoid distractions in high traffic areas.
• Do not enter a crosswalk until the road is completely clear.
• Watch for student drivers who may still be learning the rules of the road.
• Learn and follow school rules for drop-off and pick-up.
• Do not stop in the street and avoid blocking traffic lanes or driveways.
• Give in to school buses or risk a $ 250 fine.
• Watch for bicycles and pedestrians. Small children can be more difficult to see.
• Be careful! Put safety before your personal convenience.

Remember: slow down. Eyes up. Drive carefully.

Please call the Shakopee Police Department for serious ongoing situations:
• Non-emergencies: (952) 445 -1411
• Emergencies: 9-1-1
