From August 7, the Retox Coordination Center will initiate the organization of psychological support groups for patients with Sharko-Marie-Tuta disease. The purpose of this intention is to allow patients to meet each other, discuss current day problems and share their thoughts, exchanging useful information and providing mutual emotional support.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease Demyelinating acne polyneuropathy is widespread worldwide and affects men and women alike. Most often, the disease begins to manifest in childhood or adolescence. Usually, the disease does not reduce life expectancy, however, affects its quality: patients have a tingling sensation, sensory impairment, pain in the arms and legs with progressive muscle weakness. The disease progresses very slowly and causes a muscle sprain, which makes walking, movement, restraint and balance difficult. Poor posture and uncomfortable walking cause pain in the patient. In order to reduce the impact of Sharqo-Marie-Tuts' illness on the patient's life, it is essential to receive and provide support, self-confidence and internal resources. Team members will try to understand and find ways to overcome difficult times, give strength and enjoy life. Let's try to create a feeling for the patients that they are not alone – we support each other and share our experience, "says Kristīne Ķiece, psychologist at the Lutheran Disease Coordinating Center

The Support Group Meeting will take place at the House of Genetics of the Reto Disease Coordination Center in Riga, Vienibas gatve 45, the first Tuesday of each month from 11:00 to 12:30. The courses this year are: August 7th, September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th and December 4th. The group will be led by a clinical psychologist Kristīne Ķiece

To apply, patients are encouraged to call the Client Services Specialist at the Reto Disease Center at 67514618, every working day from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
