Law enforcement investigates deadly gunfire in Goleta

GOLETA, Calif .– The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that took place in the Goleta unincorporated area on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect is still pending in the region. The suspect has been identified as a male in his twenties. He was last seen wearing white baggy blue jeans and a gray shirt. The county sheriff says he is considered armed and dangerous.

The crime was reported Thursday afternoon at around 1 p.m. MPs were dispatched to the scene of the shooting in Block 600 of Burtis Street.

One person was found dead in the car and another was taken to hospital.

A shelter in place has been installed from Hollister to the cycle path between Turnpike and Patterson. Helicopters fly in the area to warn residents.

A section of Burtis is closed for investigation.

Law enforcement officers and police dogs are at the scene in Anita Lane and Burtis Street.

Our on-site Newschannel reporter said there were students on the Hollister Elementary School campus. There were fewer students than normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school principal said all the students were safe.
