The UAB medical community and the Jefferson County Department of Health (JCDH) have released good news: COVID-19 has yet to be defeated, but “we’re at the 10-yard line.”
“We have to continue to really follow the rules, get vaccinated and we will have the best chance of surviving. … We don’t want to hit the ball until we are in the end zone, ”said Dr Selwyn Vickers of UAB, Senior Vice President of Medicine and Dean of UAB Faculty of Medicine.
Vickers said he was grateful to the UAB and the state for having the ability to get through a difficult time.
“It wasn’t until the last few weeks that it felt any different from the 2020 sequel,” Vickers said. “Now it feels like 2021 because of the vaccine and the drop in cases (COVID-19) that we have seen.”
