Lego Launches Epic 2.354 Piece Set for NASA Space Shuttle Discovery

Every time you lose your mind watching a Stunning Hubble Image, don’t forget to thank the crew of Space Shuttle Discovery who delivered the Space Telescope to orbit in 1990. Lego celebrates this pioneering mission with a Discovery and Hubble 2354-Piece Set.

The new kit is a Lego version of the STS-31 Hubble deployment mission. STS stands for “Space Transportation System”. The $ 200 (£ 170) kit is aimed at ages 18 and up and will launch in April.

Lego collaborated with NASA on the design of the set, which includes movable payload doors on the shuttle. The Hubble model can fold up and fit into the shuttle, or the solar panels can be unfolded to show the telescope in all its glory. Other details include a robotic arm, a control module that opens to show the cockpit, and deployable landing gear.

“This dynamic duo represents humanity’s greatest effort – the quest for knowledge. Discovery and Hubble continue to inspire,” NASA tweeted on Monday in response to Lego’s unveiling of the entire shuttle.

Former NASA astronaut Kathy Sullivan, one of the five crew members of the STS-31, partnered with Lego to launch the new kit.

“I was thrilled to see the Space Shuttle in LEGO form, and I was very impressed with the amount of intricate detail they managed to recreate from the pod where we slept and ate until we called the ‘milk stalls’ on the telescope, ”Sullivan said in a Lego statement on Sunday.

Lego and NASA build on a history of collaborations with plastic bricks that have included the Apollo 11 lunar lander, a Saturn V rocket and the International space station.

The space shuttle remains one of NASA’s most iconic vehicles. Hubble, which celebrated more than 30 years in space, is responsible for some of the most breathtaking views of our cosmos ever. It’s been decades since the two paired up in real life, but they’re reunited again in miniature, an inspiring tribute to their collective heritage.
