Lexington-Fayette County Health Department Begins Pfizer Booster Doses

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Starting Wednesday, September 29, free booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be available by appointment on the same day at the Lexington County Health Department Public Health Clinic- Fayette for:

  • people aged 65 and over;
  • people aged 18 to 64 with underlying health conditions that put them at high risk for severe COVID-19 (this includes diabetes and heart, kidney or lung disease; more information on those considered to be high risk can be found on www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html);
  • people aged 18 and over living in long-term or high-risk care facilities;
  • people aged 18 to 64 who are likely to be exposed at work (for example, healthcare and education).

The booster can be given six months after a person has received a second dose of Pfizer vaccine. You can find more information about the Pfizer booster at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/booster-shot.html.

In addition, people who are immunocompromised – for example, people undergoing treatment for cancer or taking a high dose of an immunosuppressant – a third injection of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine is recommended at least 28 days after the second shot.

At this time, the CDC has not recommended booster doses for those who have received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccines.

Anyone who has not yet received their first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine can also call to make an appointment the same day. Our public health clinic offers Moderna and Janssen vaccines for those 18 and over and the Pfizer vaccine for those 12 and over.
