LEXINGTON, KY. (WKYT) – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department reports the city's first flu case for the 2019-2020 flu season.

Last year, five influenza-related deaths were reported in Lexington and 506 confirmed cases of influenza.

The CDC estimates that 25% of the population gets the flu each year.

"The seasonal flu vaccine is recommended for all people 6 months of age and older and is the best way to avoid getting the flu," said LFCHD spokesman Kevin Hall.

The health department provides free flu shots to the community from 1pm to 7pm. Oct. 10 at the Fayette Mall.
