LG’s Rollable OLED TV Finally Comes to the US for $ 100,000

LG’s futuristic rollable 4K OLED TV arrives in the US for a staggering $ 100,000 price tag. First shown as a jaw-dropping prototype at CES 2018 (then turned into a real product the following year), the 65-inch set can roll up and then fold back to disappear completely into its housing.

This cabinet also contains a front-trigger Dolby Atmos audio system. The OLED R has an intermediate mode between full deployment and unwinding. LG calls this view online and you can use it to display clock, photos, music controls, etc.

From an image quality perspective, the OLED R has already been technically overtaken by newer LG models; the more traditional G1 series introduced earlier this year can get brighter than any of the company’s previous OLEDs, including the rollable. But the OLED R’s panel still checks all the boxes you’d want in a modern TV: it has Dolby Vision, 4K 120Hz gaming, variable refresh rate, low automatic latency, etc. And as I hope for $ 100,000, its four HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1.

But if you shell out that kind of money for a television, you’re there for the rolling round more than anything else. The OLED R is designed for 50,000 deployments, which should give you many years to wow the minds of anyone who visits the mansion you’ve installed it in.

LG says pre-orders will open for the OLED R in August, but I’m already seeing an “add to cart” button on the company’s store. For the absurdly wealthy out there, it must be a tough call between that and Samsung’s 110-inch MicroLED TV.
