Lincoln Project drops impeachment trial against Republicans over riot on Capitol Hill

In the ad, which lasts just over a minute, the anti-Trump group GOP calls for justice for Officer Brian Sicknick, who died in the riot on Capitol Hill.

“In the Capitol rotunda, the remains of a brave man rest in a place of honor,” the video begins.

“He died as a hero,” the advertisement continues. “And now Brian Sicknick deserves justice.

Sicknick died the day after the attack on the Capitol from injuries he sustained while trying to protect the building and its occupants from the violent mob. After his death, he received the rare honor of lying in honor in the Capitol rotunda.

The ad blames Trump and his allies for inciting the riot that resulted in Sicknick’s death and various other injuries.

“The mob that murdered him and injured other Capitol Hill police officers was not stupid. She was sent there,” the voiceover said as news footage of Trump spoke.

“I don’t know if I’ll do the fight myself or if other people will,” the former president said in the clip.

The crowd was “fed a regime of lies” which culminated in the Jan. 6 uprising, and now those who should be held responsible “are trying to shirk their responsibilities,” the announcement claims.

“They didn’t hit the hundreds of shots that killed Brian Sicknick and injured his colleagues, but they told the lie that led their supporters to act. The blood is on their hands,” the ad concludes.

The new ad is one of several that Project Lincoln has released to target Trump in recent months and comes as his impeachment trial continues in the Senate.
