The LaGrange Lions Club returns for its 77th Annual Election Day BBQ, November 2, 2021.

The drive-through event will take place at the Nick Allen Pavilion, located off Forrest Avenue. The menu includes platters of pork, Boston butts and Brunswick stew.

The event takes place on the second Tuesday in November each year, coinciding with Election Day. The group says it was not intentional, but the date is instead kept due to tradition. That didn’t change when the pandemic hit last year.

“We understood that the community, no matter if there was a pandemic or something going on, they were going to support this. We sold sold out last year, ”said Shane Frailey, president of the Lions Club.

Last year turned out to be the biggest turnover of the event according to Blair Harlin, president of the barbecue.

Installation for the event begins the day before the pavilion is set up.

Some members, including Joe Westbrook and Matt Orr, who groom Boston’s butt, stay overnight to work.

Over the past nine years, the Lions Club has raised $ 258,385 for local organizations and hopes to reach $ 300,000 this year.

The money raised will go to several different local organizations such as Troup Cares, LaGrange Personal Aid, The Lions Light House Foundation, Camp for the Blind and the Salvation Army. The event will follow COVID-19 regulations set by LaGrange College and take place in rain or shine.
