INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis police on Monday credited customers at a liquor store for assisting in the capture of a suspect in a stabbing Saturday on the northwest side.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called on Saturday shortly after 4:30 p.m. over a report of a stabbing person in the 1100 block of Burdsal Parkway. It’s just off the Central Canal Trail between the White River and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Officers found a man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital in critical condition. The IMPD did not identify the man in a press release issued Monday morning.
In the same block, patrons in the parking lot of Community Spirits liquor store, 1101 Burdsal Parkway, pointed police at a man walking down the street and said he had stabbed him, according to the communicated. Officers caught up with Christopher Baptiste, 47, and found a knife and other evidence in his gym bag to link it to the stabbing.
Police later learned that Baptiste was wanted under a Marion County warrant for theft, the statement said, and he was arrested on the warrant and a preliminary charge of aggravated assault and battery. The Marion County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether to indict Baptiste criminally.
