Albany County Director Daniel P. McCoy provided the latest report on the county’s progress on vaccination and controlling the spread of the coronavirus. Yesterday, 71.7% of all residents of Albany County received at least the first dose of the vaccine and 65.8% were fully immunized. The first-dose vaccination rate for the county’s population aged 18 and over is now 82.8%. County Director McCoy announced that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Albany County is now 29,228 so far, with 71 new positive cases identified as of yesterday. The county’s five-day average of daily positive new cases is now reduced to 83. Please note that our overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferred in and out of the county. Albany County’s most recent seven-day positive rate percentage average is now down to 3.7% and the capital region’s average rate is down to 3.6%.
Of the new daily COVID cases identified in the county, 19 had close contact with positive cases, 40 had no clear sources of infection at this time, three said they had traveled out of state, and nine are health workers or residents of collective living environments. There are now 515 active cases in the county, up from 544 yesterday. The number of people in mandatory quarantine has increased from 850 to 836. So far, 91,548 people have completed quarantine so far. Of those who completed quarantine, 28,713 of them had tested positive and recovered – an increase of 99 more recoveries.
County Director McCoy reported that there had been three new hospitalizations since yesterday, and that there are now a total of 35 county residents currently hospitalized with COVID – a net increase of one. There are now eleven patients in intensive care, up from twelve yesterday. Sadly, there is one new COVID death to report – an individual in their 50s. The death toll in Albany County now stands at 407 since the outbreak began.
“Of the 35 residents of Albany County who are hospitalized with COVID, 74% are not vaccinated, while 26% are fully vaccinated. This is the highest percentage of unvaccinated people in hospital that we have ever seen in our weekly reports. Between those numbers and the loss of another county resident to the virus overnight, we are reminded of how important it is to get the vaccine to protect ourselves and our loved ones from serious illness, ”the said. County Manager McCoy.
“This is why we are scheduling even more pop-up clinics throughout the community, and I’m proud to say that Albany County has already overseen 85 booster shots to date since they were authorized by the state health department not so long ago. We have more PODs coming up that will offer a booster and 1st and 2nd doses, including tomorrow at Meyers Middle School and at the end of the month at our Fall Fest at Lawson Lake County Park, ”he continued. .
Between September 26 and October 2, 622 new COVID infections were identified and analyzed by the Albany County Department of Health. Among these cases, 294 were vaccinated, 284 were not and for 44 of them, the vaccination status was not communicated. Immunization status is self-reported by case and provided regardless of timing of vaccine administration and onset of illness. Data is provisional and subject to change as additional information is received.
Anyone eligible to receive a booster dose of the COVID vaccine and wishing to receive one from the Albany County Department of Health will need to provide their vaccination card or Excelsior Pass Plus in order to display the type of formula, number batch and date of inoculation. . Albany County continues to deliver vaccines to housebound residents, including the elderly, people with disabilities, those without child care and those with other accessibility issues. Anyone wishing to make an appointment for a vaccine should call (518) 447-7198.
Residents can also receive free Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekly at the Albany County Department of Health, 175 Green Street. The population of 12+ is currently eligible. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. 12 to 15 year olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A follow-up clinic for the second dose will be scheduled at the time of the first dose appointment. Free transportation is available to anyone age 60 or older (and a caregiver), by calling the county’s Department for Aging in advance at (518) 447-7198.
