CLEARWATER, Fla .– As the city of Clearwater celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, the InterCultural Advocacy Institute’s Hispanic Outreach Center will host a celebration in Station Square downtown on Thursday, September 23 at 5:30 p.m.
The event in the park, located at 612 Cleveland St., will recognize, honor and celebrate the contributions, talents and successes of the ancestors of American citizens who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean and South and Central America .
This event will include a reading of a Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation by the Mayor of Clearwater, Frank Hibbard, and students’ perspectives on why they are proud to be Hispanic. There will also be musical performances and dances, and local artisans will present works from different cultures of the Hispanic community.
This event is organized in conjunction with “Dine Out for a Difference” hosted by the Downtown Clearwater Merchants Association, an event held on the fourth Thursday of each month, in which 10 percent of restaurant bills from participating locations go to a non- profit.
This month’s proceeds will benefit the Hispanic Outreach Center’s Gabe Cazares Fellowship, which supports first-generation Hispanic students at St. Petersburg College.
Participating downtown restaurants include: Clear Sky on Cleveland, Chiang Mai, Kara Lynn’s Kitchen, Downtown Pizza Sports Bar & Grill, Tequila’s Mexican Grill & Cantina, Soul Sicilian Fusion, Pour Yours, Billy Bricks, Roxy’s and Black Brick Tavern + Kitchen.
