Customs officers and SBGS officials of Daf checked Poland's truck trailer in Lithuania to stop checking on 17 July. The driver of the car, a Polish citizen, A. Ch, seemed very disoriented, the officials could not even explain where exactly the cargo was being transported – 26 plastic containers with a liquid, which was described as a lubricating oil in the cargo documents.
However, the officials suspected that they were transporting oil and diesel and, as a result, the cargo had been withheld, its samples were confiscated from customs laboratory experts.
The latter concluded that the suspicions of the officials were well-founded: the illegal fuel transported to Lithuania was dyzelin (diesel oil) and heavy petroleum oils
According to the officials who arrived in Lithuania, such a liquid is usually spilled in wet form, further diluted with diesel and sold to drivers. However, such a fuel seriously damages the engines: it can damage their nozzles and their repairs are very expensive.
A total of 21,760 kg of fuel was stopped for a value of 23,979 euros.
