Every second Lithuanian, especially the younger generation, admires the furniture and interior details of the last century, showed a study of Norstat society. 50% of respondents say they have furniture in their home that ranges from 40 to 100 years or more.

The research was commissioned by IKEA, the 75th year this year. A survey of 500 respondents aged 18 to 70 years and over revealed that two or three of the three Lithuanian respondents surveyed had an old or even old article.

There is almost nothing surprising that most of the house will see furniture in recent decades – since people do not change them every six months: according to research data, the items up to 20 years. 26% of respondents are elderly. However, people in their homes also keep things much older:

20-40 years old. old – 24% of respondents,

40-60. – 16%,

60-80 years – 11%,

80-100 m. – 10%,

The majority of home-grown antiques consist of books (65%), household items and utensils (58%), small interior details and photographs (54%). Quite often, we keep furniture in our interiors. The beds of recent decades account for 15% of respondents, and the arrests – 19%, indeed, most of them are the highest income respondents. In four of the ten houses, there are tables of several decades (43%), cabinets (45%), chairs (40%). Most often, old furniture comes from parents (66%) or retirement homes, much less – antiques (11%).

The main cause is nostalgia

The study showed that the main reason for the popularity of old furniture was nostalgia: 60% of respondents said that old things remind them of family members , relatives. More than a third of them appreciate the authenticity of antique furniture, a quarter stated that they like to combine furniture from different eras and styles. Nearly 30% said that used furniture seemed harder and more reliable, so most of them responded at the age of 65. Respondents

Respondents from some of the old-time interior decorations look at it with irony. To ask what decisions of the last decades seem to be the biggest misunderstandings, the majority mentioned wall carpets (75%), collections of cans and similar items in kitchens (53%), sectional sites (42%).

"Some interior elements of the past can be hard to understand, but the interior design is cyclical, we should not be surprised to see the wall decor, maybe in some other form after a few years, but the decisions are repeated "- Eimantė Nemanė, responsible for communications and interior design at IKEA, said the presentation of the study.
