Live grenade accidentally brought to Mississippi police station

OXFORD, Mississippi – Officers at a Mississippi police station were in a temporary scare Tuesday after a citizen mistakenly introduced a grenade into the building.

The bomb squad responded to the Oxford Police Department, WAP reported.

Investigators said one person brought what they believed to be an inert grenade to the police station, the TV station reported.

Officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene and determined that the grenade may have been alive, according to WAP.

Oxford Police were assisted by the Tupelo Police Department bomb squad, the TV station reported. Streets near the police station were blocked off as a precaution but were later reopened.

According to the Oxford Police Department, the situation was resolved several hours later and a clear order was given.
