City of Alpena
Alpena City Council met on September 7 and took the following action.
∫ City Manager Rachel Smolinski informed council that the town of Alpena has received the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Excellence for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 27th consecutive year.
∫ Voted 4-0 to award the valve replacement project to Team Elmer’s in the amount of $ 61,100.
∫ Voted to award the emergency boiler replacement work at the water recycling plant to Weinkauf Plumbing and Heating for an amount of $ 49,300.
∫ Voted 4-0 to award the offer to Arrowhead Upfitters for fitting out the police vehicles in the amount of $ 24,470.
Canton of Alpena
At its August 10 meeting, the Alpena Township Board of Directors took the following actions
∫ David Johnson of Fleis & Vandenbrink (F&V) gave a presentation on Fleis & Vandenbrink Engineering Services. F&V, as the # 1 consultant in SAW grants, has 250 employees, 11 offices of which 90% of their work is for municipalities.
∫ Trustee Cash Kroll reported that the personnel committee conducted interviews and recommended Mark Hansen for the fire chief position. Moved by Clerk Michele Palevich and seconded by Trustee Cash Kroll to hire Mark Hansen as Fire Chief at an annual salary of $ 69,000 to be reviewed each budget year.
∫ Catherine Winn of F&V Operation presented city council with an agreement from Dixon Engineering & Inspection Service to oversee and inspect the Piper Road water tower painting and repair project.
Presque Isle County
The Presque Isle County Council of Commissioners met on August 27 in Rogers City and took the following action.
∫ Nena Sork, Director of the Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority, provided an update on the organization and thanked the Board of Directors for their support and the members appointed.
Voted to pass Order 02-2021 as presented by the Presque Isle County Planning Commission.
∫ Frances Ommani presented the Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency Annual Update to Council.
∫ 53rd Circuit Chief Justice Aaron J. Gauthier presented Council with an update on the past year at Circuit Court and was available to answer questions from members.
