Local man who contracts COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated says he would get vaccinated again

GREEN BAY, WB (WBAY) – As Action 2 News reported on Thursday, state health officials said more than 98% of new COVID-19 cases were in unvaccinated people. But as cases start to rise again, the so-called “revolutionary” cases in those vaccinated are starting to gain attention.

Trevor Ramseier, 38, of De Pere, falls into the high-risk category, has been fully vaccinated and has always tested positive for COVID-19.

Ramseier says he had never had COVID-19 before this. He received his first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in February and his second dose arrived in March. He says on Wednesday that he has started to experience the main symptoms of COVID-19, has had heart palpitations but says he is lucky that he does not need hospitalization.

As a precaution, he was tested on Wednesday and his positive results returned on Thursday.

“98.4% of our cases are people not vaccinated since the first of the year, which shows that this vaccine is working,” said Julie Willems Van Dijk, deputy secretary of Wisconsin DHS.

Ramseier said his doctors believe he caught the highly contagious delta variant.

“My doctor told me I was the first case he saw of someone who was fully vaccinated and had a breakthrough positive case,” Ramseier said.

Ramseier and his family were very concerned because he is immunocompromised, suffers from autoimmune disease and asthma.

“I’m just going to talk about personal preference and to each their own. I’m definitely happy to be vaccinated, because if it’s so bad with this vaccination, I can’t imagine how bad I would have had it if I hadn’t been vaccinated, ”Ramseier said.

“There is no vaccine that has ever been 100%, but when we talk about a virus that is gone it will basically infect every human on the planet, have a tool that can reduce by 90% the risk of hospitalization or death will save millions of people. lives, ”said Dr. Ryan Westergaard, Chief Medical Officer of DHS.

Ramseier says he’s a living example that a person vaccinated in the high-risk category can contract COVID-19 and not show severe symptoms. He said he would definitely get the vaccine again.

“I’m literally sitting here, I’m sick, it’s true, but I’m not serious I’m not in the hospital, and that’s the message with the vaccination all this time is to do it so that it’s not as bad as it could be, ”Ramseier said.

After isolating himself in the basement, Ramseier says he’s starting to feel better and says it’s because he’s been vaccinated. He said he was grateful his family members tested negative, especially since his son is immunocompromised and his mother is living with MS.
