KINGSFORD – Lois J. Sturm, 79, of Kingsford, died on Monday September 6, 2021 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Lois was born February 17, 1942 in Foster City, daughter of the late Walter and Georgina (Carlson) Raether. She graduated from Felch High School in 1960 and moved to Kingsford where she started as a cashier at Commercial National Bank and worked for over 30 years.
The region’s first driving cashier, Lois was known for her humor, quick wit, and many jokes, some of which would make you blush. She had very special colleagues who became lifelong friends.
Lois married Gary Sturm on November 26, 1966 in Foster City. They lived in Kingsford and raised two sons, Chris and Gary. She was a member of the Catholic Church of American Martyrs in Kingsford.
Lois was very creative and made many ceramic decorations. She grew beautiful flowers, loved birds and snowmen, putting together a whole collection. She loved spending time with her family and adored her grandsons.
Lois is survived by her husband, Gary; two sons, Christopher (Susan) Sturm of Kingsford and Gary Sturm (Ginger Johnson and son Levi) of Menominee; three grandsons, Joseph, Jonathan and Luke Sturm; two brothers, Gary (Lorraine) Raether and Guy (Kathy) Raether; one sister, Linda Raether; one brother-in-law, Darwin Dixon; sister-in-law Barbara Braspennickx and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by a sister, Lola Dixon and her brother-in-law, Bob Braspennickx.
Visitations will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today at Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford. A memorial mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the Catholic Church of the American Martyrs in Kingsford. Bro. Joseph Gouin will offer the Christian funeral mass. Interment will be in the cemetery of Quinnesec.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pinecrest for their care of Lois during her stay this summer.
