Some of the eyewitnesses were in south-east London when they saw the meteor stratum overhead. And the United Kingdom Meteor Network has released a still image of a bright light in the sky, but could not confirm that it was the meteor in question.

Meteoroids are small rocky or metallic bodies in space.

They are significantly smaller than asteroids and range from small grains to objects one meter wide.

Objects smaller than this are classified as micrometeorides or space dust.
