BOSTON (CBS) – There were long lines for coronavirus testing in Massachusetts on Friday. Some people have stood in line for several hours to get tested for a variety of reasons, including to allay concerns after their Thanksgiving gatherings.
Kelly Keefe spent more than two hours online at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Friday to get tested for COVID-19.
“It was around the building. It was my first time taking a COVID test, ”Keefe said. “Right after the holidays around family and people reunions it gets a little scary.”
Tufts Medical Center and state testing sites were busy for most of the day.
“When I got here it was around the corner a few times and back,” said Simon Safran of Boston.
A lot of people take their tests on Friday because most sites were closed Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“You never know, that’s why it’s good to get tested because you don’t know who’s been in contact with whom,” said Angel Thomas of Boston.
Doctor Brian Cruz of PhysicianOne encourages people to get tested immediately if they have symptoms of coronavirus. He is not surprised that lines formed on the test sites on Friday and he expects the trend to continue.
“I think if you’re worried about being exposed to a drug test,” Dr. Cruz said. “I’m sure as people travel and expand their bubble, so to speak, with other people who are not intimately in their close homes, we will see an increased need for testing.
Dr Cruz also wants to remind people to follow social distancing guidelines and wear masks as they continue to gather over the weekend.
