LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Lexington VA Healthcare System vaccinated over 1,000 veterans today, despite the challenges of the clinic’s first day.
The organization has organized a walk-in COVID-19 vaccine drive, which is the first opportunity of its kind in the country.
Demand for the vaccine was high. The vets waited in the snow for a chance to get the shot. Some got in and out in less than an hour. Others waited much longer.
The AV said she hopes to improve wait times in the future.
“We are working on this to get everyone to the hospital from areas where we can get the vaccination as quickly as possible.” said Patrick Sinclair, volunteer service officer.
Either way, the men and women online who have served our country say everyone can help in this fight.
“If you plan not to [the vaccine], please rethink, ”said veteran Thomas Harrison. “Please rethink. Because it will help the whole country. It’s not just one person or one individual, it’s the whole country. “
The walk-in clinic will be open Sunday and Monday at the Bowling campus near the University of Kentucky. The AV has adjusted the original times. It will now open at 8 a.m. The cutoff will be 2 p.m. Anyone online or in the parking lot before this date will be seen.
