LORDSTOWN – The village council on Monday gave the first reading of an ordinance that would grant a pay increase of $ 1 an hour to part-time workers.

Mayor Arno Hill said with fewer than four of six council members in attendance at the meeting, council was unable to give more than one reading on the agenda.

The ordinances are to increase the wages of all part-time employees by $ 1 an hour this year, effective October 4, and by 50 cents an hour in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Clerk Bill Blank said employees receiving the increase include auxiliary members of the fire department, part-time police dispatchers and a part-time school resources officer.

Blank said the part-time aide worked several hours.

Blank said there are four part-time dispatchers; four or five auxiliary officers, some of whom work only one day a week; and part-time paramedics, emergency medical services and firefighters who respond by call.

The other part-time workers are a part-time employee in the water service and in the tax service.

The village’s 31 full-time employees were approved for a pay rise at the last meeting. Beginning October 1, full-time workers will receive a $ 2 per hour wage increase and receive wage increases of $ 1 per hour each year from 2022 to 2024.

Blank said the cost to the village of the $ 1 per year increases is $ 64,400 per year.

Workers include water and sewer clerks and assistants, staff in planning and zoning, and parks and grounds offices, and police personnel.

Blank said many employees have not benefited from a salary increase adjustment in the past three years.

In other actions, the board:

• Schedule treats or treats from 5 pm to 7 pm on October 31;

• If Hill had re-appointed Larry Tura to the Zoning Appeal Board and Dan Cuckovich for a six-year term on the board.
