Los Angeles County has issued proof of vaccination requirement for indoor bars and nightclubs

“This amended order from the health official aligns with the continued need to reduce the risk of transmission and increase immunization coverage,” Dr Barbara Ferrer, county public health director, said on Friday during a press briefing. “And that gives us a reasonable path forward that hopefully positions us to be better able to break the cycle of flare-ups.”

Reorder from Los Angeles County is not required for interior portions of restaurants but is highly recommended. Children under 12 are exempt, Ferrer said.

Customers and employees will need to have at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine by October 7 and be fully vaccinated by November 4.

The new order also requires a vaccine check or negative test result within 72 hours for those attending mega-events with 10,000 or more attendees at venues or events with controlled entry points, said Ferrer, including places like sports arenas and amusement parks.

By state standards, Californians must also show proof of vaccination or a negative test result at events with 1,000 or more attendees.

The county reported more than 1,820 new cases of Covid-19 and more than 1,150 people hospitalized with the virus on Friday.

Of the more than 5.4 million people who had been fully vaccinated as of Sept. 14 in Los Angeles County, about 0.87% of them have tested positive for the virus and 0.025% have been hospitalized.

“Our data is reassuring that these vaccines continue to offer excellent protection against hospitalizations and Covid-related deaths,” Ferrer said.

But vaccines aren’t perfect, she added, and residents should protect themselves in other ways, especially where there are high levels of transmission and vulnerable residents, she said. .

The county continues to remain under a mask mandate that was reinstated in July, when cases and hospitalizations increased, fueled by the Delta variant.
