Angels – Los Angeles is the first county in the country to re-require masks. The mandate is for the interior, and it is indefinite.
The masks returned on Sunday, a month after California dropped the restrictions, saying the state’s COVID recovery was on track. But now a speed bump.
Dr Anthony Fauci warns of a dangerous epidemic among the unvaccinated.
“There are still a lot of people who aren’t vaccinated, which is leading to this dynamic spread of the virus throughout the community. I think that’s the challenge in Los Angeles,” Fauci told CBS News.
Nationally, the vaccination rate has fallen by 35%. This allowed Canada, initially slow to pull in the arms, to quickly catch up. America’s progress is threatened by the highly contagious Delta variant.
New cases have increased by nearly 70% in the United States over the past week with eight states plagued by rapidly increasing infections.
“Most people will get vaccinated or have already been infected or they will get this Delta variant. And for most people who get this Delta variant, it will be the most serious virus they will catch in their lifetime,” said former Food and Drug Administration chief Dr Scott Gottlieb Told “Facing the Nation.”
A new CBS poll shows a majority of Americans are worried about the Delta variant. But it is the fully vaccinated who are more concerned than the unvaccinated.
And there are new concerns about the spread of COVID among athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, which begins this week. Tennis star Coco Gauff ad that she has tested positive and that she will no longer be able to compete with Team USA.
